Treat and Prevent Turkey Neck
“Why does the turkey neck happen? And how do I fix it?” If I had a dime for every time someone asked me this…
Turkey neck, or laxity in the front of the throat/chin area occurs by a cascade of postural issues. But let me tell you - you will see huge changes with a simple postural adjustment.
Here’s how it happens in the first place:
~ As you work on your computer, text on your phone, cook, play with your children, read a book... your shoulders roll forward and inward. This tightens and shortens the pectoralis (chest) muscles.
~ From this rounded state, your head pitches forward, stressing out the upper traps (shoulder area) and the back of your neck and head, causing tension.
~ Your eyes will always want to meet the horizon, therefore this tilts your head up and compresses the area between your head and neck (the occipital base).
~ The back of the head, neck and shoulders get tense, tight, over stretched and painful, as the front of your throat gets weak, atrophied, lax, and fluid starts to retain - further putting pressure on the skin.
~ Then your magical body adjusts to keep you safe in this abnormal posture by laying down collagen fibers, essentially gluing you in this position so that your muscles don't need to work so hard.
Hello sag...
Here’s what you can do today to make real changes:
~Watch this short video on some very simple stretches to open your chest, automatically realign your head, neck and shoulders, and retrain your body to hold you up in a more functional, balanced way! This will naturally tonify the front of your neck, and relax the back of your neck for beauty, ease, and pain relief.
I hope this helps! Keep your heart, neck, and mind open my loves.
