I used to think that stressful situations would destroy me, fry my nerves and age me significantly faster. And yes, chronic stress left unchecked does a number on us (halts healing and regeneration and lowers our immune system). I’ve spent years under chronic stress practically at every stage of my life. And I’ve healed, restoration is possible!

*So here’s the real truth about a strong healthy nervous system:

~ It’s not about living a stress-free life (that's not what you came here for) It’s about building resilience to life's stresses and learning how to self-regulate. 

We’re designed to move quickly into fight or flight (sympathetic) when needed, and then quickly back into rest and digest/heal (parasympathetic).

The ability to move in and out of these states is a sign of nervous system resilience. Not staying in chronic stress mode, or avoiding stress altogether (get ready for a lonely, and incredibly boring life, which will eventually feel stressful).

Ways to help your body release stress and return to homeostasis:

~ Move your body: walk, run, dance, shake your limbs

~ Cry, yell into a pillow, call a friend

~ Journal it out

~ Have an orgasm

~ Surrender to a higher power and lean into trust.
